Everything about iOS 9

Everything about iOS 9

  • Update: iOS 9 beta is now available to download by the public.
iOS 9 is Apple's next iPhone and iPad update now that iOS 8.4 has launched with Apple Music, and it brings a smarter Siri, public transit directions to Maps, true tablet multitasking and new built-in apps.
An iOS 9 public beta has launched with improved stability, a smaller download size and legacy phone and tablet compatibility. That older iPhone and iPad you have will work with this update if it runs iOS 8.
New iOS 9 features consist of redesigned built-in apps and a few premiers new ones. There's also more functionality than ever for iPads. Here's what to expect with the full release.

iOS 9 release date

iOS 9 is available to everyone enrolled in Apple's free public beta program or its iOS developer program. The latter launched first at WWDC, but requires becoming a registered developer by paying a yearly fee.
iOS 9 release date
Everyone else who wants the final version of iOS 9 for free has to wait until later this year when it's expected to launch with the new iPhone. Think: September.
That two month wait can be a good thing. iOS 9 beta 1 and beta 2 were buggy and unfinished. The best features typically don't launch until the gold master version, anyway.

iOS 9 compatibility

iOS 9 is proving to be more inclusive than previous iOS versions. Apple is choosing to make this update compatible with older iPhone, iPad and even iPod touch devices, too.
iOS 9 compatibility iPhone and iPad
Okay, it's not technically more inclusive just yet. Basically, if your dated hardware runs iOS 8, it can run iOS 9. When the rumored iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPad Air 3 and iPad mini 4 launch, then the list will grow by four, or five if there's an iPhone 6C.
Overall, it's good news, as older phones and tablets aren't getting muscled out. The iPhone 4S and iPad 2 are safe, for now, and a few 30-pin dock devices live on.
iOS 9 siri features

Smarter Siri

Siri in iOS 9 is getting the much-needed smarts to rival Google Now. Apple's personal assistant understands the word "it" within context and brings proactivity to the operating system.
For example, if you're talking about a topic with someone in iMessages and ask Siri to "Remind me about 'this' later today," it'll scan the open app and try to understand what "this" means.
iOS 9 proactivity puts even more at your fingertips through Siri. It suggests appointments to add to Calendar, and pulls up photos based on location and time with the sound of your voice.
Siri's location-based knowledge appears to be most promising when you're out and about. Plugging in headphones at the gym? It'll offer the Now Playing interface right on the lockscreen.
Plugging it into your car? It'll bring up that audiobook you were listening to before. It'll even tell you when to leave for an appointment across town, a feature that has made Google's app for iOS a must-have.
 iOS 9
Siri in iOS 9 also knows your location and what you like to listen to in the car or gym
One of the most convenient new iOS 9 features is giving context to random numbers that call you, diving into your email to see if it can match the digits. Goodbye, telemarketers - we hope.
Siri already takes over one billion requests a week, according to Apple. That should only increase now that iOS 9 promises to make Siri 40% faster and 40% more accurate.

Apple Pay expands

Apple Pay has been touted as a success, but so far has been limited to the US. That all changes when the mobile payment platform launches in the UK this month.
iOS 9 release date and features
iOS 9 release date and features
The official Apple Pay UK release date is rumored to be July 14, and it'll be backed by nearly 70% of credit and debit cards there, including Lloyds Bank, Bank of Scotland and HSBC.
Canada and China are thought to be next up for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus mobile payment platform, but the company hasn't announce that broad of an expansion just yet.
In the US, Apple Pay is now backed by 2,500 US banks and, this fall, rewards and store-issued cards will be a part of the mobile wallet. This is an idea we liked about Android Pay at Google IO in May.
Considering these newfound iOS 9 capabilities, Apple is renaming Passbook (the app where Apple Pay resides) to Wallet.

Apple Maps

Apple Maps is sometimes unavoidable, even if you're a dedicated Google Maps users. Siri and built-in apps still open directions up in the default navigation app. That won't change.
iOS 9 maps
The good news is that iOS 9 is going to make Apple Maps better, and maybe even tolerable. In its first major refresh since 2013, the app now includes long-awaited public transit directions.
That means routes for buses, trains, subways and, yes, even ferries are part of Apple Maps. This goes live this fall in Baltimore, Berlin, Chicago, London, Mexico City, New York City, Philadelphia, the San Francisco Bay Area, Toronto and Washington D.C.
Notably, it'll support directions for 300 cities in China, a huge emerging market for the iPhone, including hotspots like Beijing, Chengdu and Shanghai.

Apple News apps

iOS 9 release date and features
In addition to getting rid of Passbook in favor of Wallet in iOS 9, Apple is replacing Newsstand with News, and it's very familiar if you're a fan of magazine-style news aggregators.
Apple News for iOS 9 is Flipboard, HTC BlinkFeed and Feedly wrapped into one app. It features a personalized feed and is coming to US, UK and Australia at launch.
No telling if publishers will wrap their content in the fresh Apple News format. The advantage to you, however, is more clear: your data will remain anonymous, apart from your Apple ID, promises the company.

Multitasking for iPad

iOS 9 brings true multitasking to its newer iPad tablets, and we're not talking about the "multitasking" app switcher that premiered with iOS 4 back in 2010.
iOS 9multitasking
iPads will finally be able to handle more hefty productivity tasks. That's to the delight of enterprise users who prefer iOS for personal use, but feel forced to opt for a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 or Android tablet at work.
There are three ways to view multitasking windows on an iPad. Slide Over brings a second app from the side so you can answer a text or write something in Notes. It's just as easy to slide away.
iOS 9 news
There's also a special Picture-in-Picture mode that puts videos and FaceTime calls in the corner of the display when the home button is pressed. From there, you can use any other app while watching the video. Google's YouTube app for iOS works this very same way, at least within that specific app.
Both Slide Over and Picture-in-Picture are compatible with newer iPads: iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 2 and iPad mini 3. The last mode, Split View, is an iPad Air 2-only affair.
iOS 9 maps
Split View is the mode that everyone imagines when they hear the word "multitasking." It enables two apps to be open side-by-side and they're both active at the same time, with full multitouch support.
While Apple isn't ready to announce the long-rumored 12-inch iPad Pro, it's clearing honing in on the enterprise user with its latest tablet software features.

New iOS 9 keyboard

Apple launched what it called its "best keyboard yet" with the iOS 8 QuickType, and it's trying to one-up that statement with the iOS 9 keyboard.
iOS 9 keyboard
iPad's on-screen keyboard now features a built-in shortcut bar, which flanks the next-word suggestions above the QWERTY letter keys. Cut, copy and paste to the left; bold, italic, underline and attachments to the right.
That's better than having to hunt for these shortcuts in the second layer of the keyboard menu, and in a surprise move, Apple is making this default layout customizable and compatible with third-party keyboard apps.
iOS 9 keyboard
Cursor control is now easier with a handy (or fingery) slide mechanic when using two fingers. It basically turns the iPad QuickType keyboard into an trackpad. It's way easier than hovering over the tiny cursor, trying to land in between letters.
iOS 9 keyboard
Finally, shortcuts are coming to wireless keyboards so that you can interact with apps using their own built-in shortcut keys. Pressing and holding the Command, Option or Control key brings up the shortcut list.

Under the hood

New features are exciting and all, but iOS 9 needs to run better than iOS 8, which had a series of Wi-Fi and battery drain problems from the get-go. Some users are still complaining.
iOS 9 release date and features
Longer battery life is a chief concern of iPhone users, but they can squeeze out an extra hour thanks to a new Low Power mode. Apple says iOS 9 pulls switches you didn't even know existed to save juice.
You may be able to install iOS 9 this time around without deleting all of your photos. It'll take about 1.3GB, whereas iOS 8 needed massive 4.5GB of internal storage. That was awful on a 16GB iPhone.
CPU and GPU usage will be more efficient thanks to iOS 9, further improving performance, and security is said to be stepped up. Hopefully that means last year's iCloud hack isn't going to be an annual incident.
iOS 9 release date and features
Not mentioned during Apple WWDC keynote, a "Move to iOS" app is hidden within iOS 9. It'll be easier to wirelessly switch from an Android device to a new iOS phone or tablet.
iPhone and iPad may be surprised when asked to enter a six-digit passcode instead of an easier-to-crack four digit code. But it's the difference between one million possible combinations and 10,000 and Touch ID really makes the hassle a moot point. Better safe than sorry.

How to bypass wifi Restrictions

How to bypass wifi Restrictions

Public wifi hotspots and restricted internet access

More and more, you can find public wireless hotspots, in cities, train stations, airports... and
even some public hotspots that are available with a subscription, accessible through a web login form.
The thing is, most of the time, these hospots will have a reduced connectivity. Only some ports and protocols will be allowed. For instance, you may be restricted to HTTP, HTTPS, POP and SMTP. Not the best combination when one primarily uses SSH!
This also applies to protected networks, such as libraries, schools and office environments, where your access to Internet is limited, and some ports and protocols are blocked.
I will explain here two different solutions to break free of these restrictions: SSH tunneling and SOCKS servers. As I write this, I run a web browser, a fish session, an IM client, a FTP client, all through some SSH tunnel.

What do we need?

You do need the following:
  • HTTPS access through the firewall. Most hotspots will leave HTTPS open, port 443, so that people can browse Internet and go to secure sites
  • A server somewhere on Internet, even an home machine, with root access
  • Well, Linux. This howto is using Debian systems. You can probably have it to work on Windows too, using other tools
  • A little bit of time to try the different solutions
You may want to use a free shell provider such as SilenceIsDefeat as your server, but make sure you can access SSH through port 443.

How does it work?

The first solution using simple SSL tunneling. What we do is create a SSH tunnel, which connects from your machine, to your server, through port 443 (HTTPS port). This tunnel listens on a given port on your machine, and redirects everything to Internet, through another given port on the server. So you can for instance create an IMAP connection from your machine to any mail server out there, even if the firewall disallows IMAP, simply telling your mail client to connect to localhost:10000.
The second solution is to create a SSH tunnel, but rather than listen to a specific port on your machine, what we do is to use SSH as a SOCKS server to redirect every connections from an application, through the tunnel, directly to Internet (and via our server). Some applications, such as Firefox, supports SOCKS, others can be tricked using tsocks.
I find that using both solutions allows me to do almost everything. Some applications don't play well with SOCKS, so simple tunneling works better. However, SOCKS, when working, has the advantage of not requiring any changes of configuration in your applications.

Before we start

You need to access your server at least once via regular SSH, port 22, in order to set it up. If you are already behind the firewall, you will not be able to log in the server. Since I was in a rush, I did useAnyterm to be able to access the server for the initial configuration.
We will set the server to be listening on the port 443, so that we can SSH into it using the port usually reserved to HTTPS. Log into your server, and edit the file /etc/ssh/sshd_config and add the line:
Listen 443
Then restart your SSH server. It now listens on port 443 (in the configuration file, you can leave the other ports, such as 22).
You should be able to log into your server, from behind the firewall, with the following command:
ssh -p 443 my.server.com
You may want to set up your access so that no password is required to log in, using SSH keys for instance. This will allow you to open the tunnels to the server without having to type in your password. Essential.

SSH tunneling

Say that you want to access to email account via IMAP (port 143) when the firewall forbids it. Create a SSH tunnel with the following command:
ssh -L localhost:10143:mail.isp.com:143 -p 443 user@my.server.com
This will forward any IMAP requests received on localhost port 10143 to mail.isp.com port 143, all through a SSH tunnel. We basically use the server to forward the IMAP connection.
Then set up your email client to use localhost as incoming server, and 10143 as the port number. You should be able to fetch your emails, despite the firewall.
At the same time, I also want to connect to another server, via SSH. In fact, I want to open a webspace in Konqueror, via the fish KIO plugin. Turns out that you can enable several redirections in the same tunnel:
ssh -L localhost:10143:mail.isp.com:143 -L localhost:10022:web.isp.com:22 -p 443 user@my.server.com
Then in Konqueror, I simply go to:
fish://user@localhost:10022

SSH as a SOCKS server

Now, we will attempt to have Skype and FTP to bypass the firewall. In order to do so, we will run a SOCKS server on a given port, and set applications to use SOCKS, either natively, either forcibly. When an application uses SOCKS, all its network connections are routed through the SOCKS server, which forwards it all to your server on Internet, and then connects to your different services and servers. It is a bit like a "multi-port" SSH tunnel.
Some applications don't understand SOCKS. So we will trick them, using tsocks. Running an application under tsocks will catch all the application's connections and negociate SOCKS access transparently. Technically, tsocks overwrites the kernel connection methods with its own, using LD_PRELOAD. To install tsocks, compile it from the source, or simply install your distribution's package. For Debian/Ubuntu:
sudo apt-get install tsocks
To run SSH as a SOCKS server listening on port 1080, use the following command:
ssh -D 1080 -p 443 user@my.server.com
Note that if you can get the firewall to redirect some ports to you, you can also enable the forwarding into the tunnel from the server. For instance here, I have the server listening on port 1081, and forwarding all connections to my localhost, port 1081. Can be very useful for some peer-to-peer applications:
ssh -A -R 1081:localhost:1081 -D 1080 -p 443 user@my.server.com
Then configure tsocks to use to connect to localhost port 1080. Edit /etc/tsocks.conf, and near the end, change it so that it looks like this:
server = 127.0.0.1
port = 1080
Then, you need to run your applications from within tsocks. You can use tsocks in many ways. For instance, in a shell, run simply tsocks and you will get into a new shell from which all applications will be forced to connect through the SOCKS server. You can also run applications as following:
tsocks skype
tsocks kopete
tsocks kmail
tsocks ftp someserver.com
tsocks ssh someuser@someserver.com
If everything goes well, you will run almost all applications as if you were directly connected to Internet.

Some notes

  • You need root access on your server to allow SSH to listen port 443. But you don't need to install anything on the server. As long as your server is connected to Internet with a less restrictive firewall, and you have a SSH account on it, you're fine.
  • FTP will need to be in passive mode
  • Annoyingly, Konqueror SOCKS configuration can't use SSH as SOCKS server, nor plays well withtsocks
  • Some applications work better with simple SSH tunneling
  • Some plainly don't work. The only BitTorrent application I could get working is azareus, using these instructions

Conclusion

It works very well! I was stuck in a place with only a public hostpot, and am now able to work using all my normal tools, with very little changes. I do web coding, and I use SSH, FTP, IM, all the time; I can now do it all. I SSH, FTP, IMAP, Skype, IM through SOCKS, uses fish through SSH tunneling, and browse Internet trough nothing since the ISP allows HTTP!
If you have a public hostpot nearby, which requires a registration to use, and you actually are not registered, you can search for DNS or ICMP tunneling. You will be able to redirect all your traffic through DNS or ICMP requests, since these hotspots let you do that and only that. For instance, see these two tutorials.

9 best Google Adsense Alternatives

9 best Google Adsense Alternatives

Here are some of the best Google Adsense Alternatives you can try to monetize your website without using Google Adsense, and I’ll tell you how they work and why you should consider them, so let’s start:

9. Amazon Associates

You can make a good amount of money from Amazon, especially in Christmas and other holidays
Amazon is the biggest online store in the world, so they must be doing something good. Well, if you have a website that talks about any product that can be found on Amazon, then Amazon associates could work for you. Amazon allows you to put dynamic image ads to your blog, so that you can promote them and while this isn’t a Pay-per-click or CPM program, it will pay you a small commission for everything they sell from your links. So let’s say you have a blog about Apple products and you put an ad driving them to buy an iPod or just a cable. If they buy it, an small commission will be for you. So if you sell a $10 cable you might receive a few cents, but sell a $1500 Laptop and you might receive $100.

8. Yllix Media

Yllix is a network I have heard a lot in the last years that has a decent CPM and many monetization options. Their homepage might look simple but their dashboard is great and it’s easy to get started. Yllix has Pop under ads, mobile redirects, sliders, layer ads and full page ads so you can get a good CTR and make money with them. Definitely a good option for starters and their approval is fast.

7. Chitika

Chitika is very similar to Adsense. They allow you to customize your ads, and it only serves contextual ads. One good thing is that you can use it along with Adsense and there are no problems at all. Chitika pays via Paypal ($10 USD minimum, which is good for starters) or via check ($50 minimum). If I were to recommend an ads service as an alternative to Adsense, Chitika would be my first choice, hands down. Chitika can pay you via paypal if you need.

6. Tribal Fusion

Tribal Fusion is no small network. They work on a CPM basis and you need a lot of traffic to get accepted (500,000 unique visitors per month). This is a great alternative for those working with viral websites or sites that already have a lot of traffic. There are some other similar networks but I think Tribal Fusion is one of the best.

5. PopAds

PopAds is a performance network specialized in Pop Unders. They have good rates and they can monetize all countries. Something great about PopAds is that they can pay daily as long as you earn $5 or more per day. Their quality is good, and they also have pop ups and other monetization methods. Their approvals are easy and setting your ads takes just a few minutes.

4. Propeller Ads Media

Propeller Ads is one of the biggest pop-under networks available. They started working on 2011 and quickly developed into one of the biggest networks with great CPMs. They specialize in monetizing websites for the following niches: entertainment, videos/movies, games, dating, finances, software, gambling and more. If you’ve got one of this sites, you could make more money with Propeller than with Adsense. They also have banners but the pop unders work better overall. Also, if you’ve got mobile traffic, they’re a great Adsense alternative as they work closely with ad networks that monetize apps and mobile services leading to huge ROIs and great CPMs too.
Propeller pays on a NET 30 basis and they have a great fill rate for tier 2-3 countries. So if you’re struggling to monetize traffic from countries like India, Singapore, Turkey, South Africa, etc. Propeller has a big inventory for them too.

3. Infolinks

Infolinks is a Pay per click advertisement network that allows you to make money through your blog based on specific keywords. Infolinks indexes your pages and automatically add some hiperlinks in your text. Of course, since this isn’t a CPM program, it might take you a while to start earning a regular passive income through it, but it’s still an alternative to Adsense. They can pay you via Paypal, Wire Transfer, Check Western Union, ACH and Payoneer and there’s an initial limit of $50. Infolinks is great for big websites and it works in English, Spanish, French and German websites.

2. Adversal

Adversal is a great alternative of Adsense and works as great as Chitika. They have good banners and the CTR and revenue adapts to get the best results for your website. I’ve seen the Ads on Adversal have a good CTR and they have good image ads too. This is probably the Ad network which seems to work better for those looking for a replacement of Google Adsense. It works decently with other languages too (Chitika doesn’t).  You account gets approved really fast and they also have Pop under /CPM ads as an option.
Note: Adversal requires a website with a minimum of 50,000 page views per month, but they have proven to work really well. I earn over $500-1000 per month. They also pay via paypal.

1. Revenue Hits

Revenue Hits is a great contender.Revenue hits is a Performance Ad network, which means they pay you for results (CPA which is great for many niches), however, they have CPM and CPC models too. Revenue hits has an interesting platform that learns from your Ads so if you give them a try make sure to keep their ads running for 2-4 days to get the best results. Another great thing is that they have different monetization channels available. You can create banner ads, sliders, pop -unders, buttons and more. Revenue Hits pays on a NET 30 basis and they issue payments via wire, Paypal and Payoneer! Create your account and get started in just a few minutes.

All U Need To Know About Android M

All U Need To Know About  Android M

It's been a whole year since Android Lollipop was announced at IO 2014, so it's about time Google took to the stage and announced its successor - and thankfully it's done just that.
Say hello to Android M, the latest mobile platform from Google, where thousands of bugs have been squashed and a new layer of polish and quality has been applied.
We were live at Google IO 2015 in San Francisco and we've updated this page with all
the latest news and features.
Latest update: Android M Developer Preview 2 has given us a glance at a new memory manager tool, and some new interface features.

Cut to the chase

  • What is it? The successor to Android Lollipop
  • When is it out? Q3 2015 (likely September)
  • What will it cost? As with all Android upgrades it's free

Android M name

So Android M is official, but it's missing its sweet treat name. We expect Google to keep that under wraps until later this year when it starts rolling out the update, but we know that internally it's currently going by the name Macadamia Nut Cookie.
We're hoping that is just the development name and Google goes for something a little more catchy when it rolls out - but we'll have to wait and see.

Android M release date

Bad news folks, you won't be able to get your hands on Android M straight away - unless you're a developer.
The Android M developer preview is already available, but the main Android M release date is set for Q3 2015 - and we'd say it's most likely to be September - when we'll also learn the sweet treat name Google has christened it.
Google has promised that developers will receive at least two further updates to the Android M preview before it hits the mainstream - the first is scheduled for the end of June, while the second is expected to land towards the end of July.
  • Android M release date: when can I get it?

Android M developer preview

As mentioned, developers can get their grubby mitts on a preview of Android M from May 28, with support for the Nexus 5 and 6 handsets, Nexus 9 tablet and Nexus Player available.
Some may be disappointed to see a lack of love for the Nexus 7 slate - so fingers crossed Google pushes out the final software to it later this year.
Meanwhile at the end of June Sony became the first hardware maker to offer the Android M developer preview for non-Nexus models.
According to Sony the following smartphones and tablets will be able to download the Android M developer preview: Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact,Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact,Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia E3, Xperia M2, Xperia T2 Ultra and the Xperia T3.
This list gives us a pretty good idea of what handsets will be upgraded to the final version of Android M once it releases.
The new Sony Xperia Z3+ is noticeable by its absence, but we're pretty certain that it will get the update as well.

Android Pay

Android Pay isn't just available with Android M, it will be supported on devices with NFC running Android KitKat and above.
There's no need to open an app to make a payment, all you'll need to do unlock and place your handset on a compatible contactless payment terminal.
For those rocking Android M on their device you'll also be able to use Android M within third party applications for simple purchases which don't require you to enter all your details every time.

Android M fingerprint support

We've seen some smartphone manufacturers already include fingerprint scanners in their devices, but with Android M Google is looking to make the support standardized across the whole platform.
As well as allowing you to unlock your device and pay for media from the Google Play store the fingerprint scanning tech is also open to developers.
That means devs can build it into their own applications, allowing you to sign into them without the need for a password, as well as pay for goods using Android Pay.

Voice controls

Android M looks like it is getting even better voice control thanks to the newVoice Interaction API, which will allow app developers to build voice control directly into their apps.
This means that owners of Android M devices will be able to speak to their apps - and the apps will even talk back!
One of the examples Google has detailed s with the TuneIn app, which now uses the API. A user can say "OK Google, listen to music on TuneIn", and the TuneIn app will not only load, but will then ask out loud "What genre of music would you like to listen to?".
The user can then reply with their favourite genre. This natural way of speaking to your smartphone and the apps installed could revolutionise the way we interact with our smartphones.
And there's more, so click the next page button below to find out about power, charging, app permissions and more in Android M.

Android M power

Google has done a load of work surrounding battery life and power in Android M, which will be music to many user's ears.
First up Google has cooked up Doze - where your device will use motion detection to realize when it hasn't moved for an extended period of time and switches to a deeper sleep which consumes much less power.
Your device won't be completely useless in this mode, as Doze still allows alarms and key notifications to come through.
The search giant says it grabbed two Nexus 9 tablets, one running Lollipop and the other Android M, loaded the same apps and settings on both and then tested the standby power drain on the two.
Apparently the Nexus 9 running Android M lasted up to two times longer than its Lollipop counterpart. It sounds impressive and we're hoping it translates to noticeably better battery life on our devices.

Android M charging

As well as making our batteries last longer, Android M also brings faster charging to the fore with USB-C support.
USB-C is a new type of USB connector which, like Apple's Lightning connector, can be plugged in either way round. No more fumbling in the dark trying to plug in your charging cable the right way round.
Google claims devices with USB-C connectors will charge three to five times faster than the current microUSB offerings on the market.

Android M Now on Tap

With Android M comes an intelligent new assistant feature called Now on Tap. An enhancement to Google Now, Now on Tap lets users access information anywhere on their Android M device, no matter what they're doing.
Users can simple tap and hold the home button to pull up a query without leaving the app they're in or website. If a friend emails you about seeing a movie, for example, Now on Tap could pull up info like ratings, the trailer or even let you buy tickets. You can also look at other apps on your phone, like Yelp or OpenTable, to book a dinner reservation or read reviews about a restaurant your friends wants to try for dinner.
Now on Tap doesn't just work with a tap for place info: you can also do voice search for more specific queries, like who sings your new favorite song.

Android M interface

Judging by early versions of Android M, the new operating system will keep the Material Design look of Android 5.0 Lollipop, but with one key difference.
Scrolling through your installed apps in the Apps Drawer used to be a horizontal affair, however with the first Developer Preview of Android M, a new vertical scrolling method was introduced.
To help you get used to the new way of doing things, and to allow you to find apps easily, letters were included in the interface to help you jump to the app you required - all you needed to know was the letter the name of the app began with.
Developer Preview 2 has since been launched, and although the vertical Apps Drawer has remained, the letters have been removed leading to a tidier, but perhaps more confusing, interface.

Android M permissions

It's made app permissions more intuitive, giving users the option to allow/deny specific permissions within an app - rather than having to accept all permissions at once.
Currently you have to accept permissions when you download an app, but with Android M you won't be asked to grant access to features until you come to use them for the first time in the app.
That means, for example, you can give WhatsApp access to your camera, but not to your microphone if you wish.
You can even revoke access for a particular permission by diving into the settings if you accidentally allowed it.

More new features on Android M

Google has simplified volume controls once again with the Android M update, with more granular control over the various audio settings on your device from ringtones and alarms to music playback and voice calls.
Word selection has been made easier too, with Android M highlighting text more intuitively, and a floating menu offers controls such as cut, copy and paste at your fingertips, rather than in the toolbar at the top of the display.
Fire up the Chrome web browser on Android M and you'll benefit from Chrome Custom Tabs, which let websites customize the toolbar and menu of the Chrome tab to provide dedicated buttons and options.
An example shown on stage at Google IO was Pinterest, which was able to add a "Pin" button to the toolbar on certain pages.
App linking has been vastly improved in Android M, with Google's software now more adept at working out whether a link should be opened in a browser or a compatible app. That means fewer "open with" pop up boxes flashing up on screen and generally just getting in the way.
A new and improved memory manager was also spotted in Developer Preview 2 of Android M. This tool allows you to view what apps are taking up the most RAM and slowing down your device.
You can also see the average amount of RAM used by apps - even if they're not running - which lets you identify any memory hogs and rid them from your phone.
This should make Android M run faster and more reliably than Android 5.0 Lollipop, which can sometimes suffer from memory leaks.

NEWS:Windows 10 can run reworked Android and iOS apps

Windows 10 can run reworked Android and iOS apps

After months of rumors, Microsoft is revealing its plans to get mobile apps on Windows 10 today. While the company has been investigating emulating Android apps, it has settled on a different solution, or set of solutions, that will allow developers to bring their existing code to Windows 10.
iOS and Android developers will be able to port their apps and games directly to Windows universal apps, and Microsoft is enabling this with two new software development kits. On the Android side, Microsoft is enabling developers to use Java and C++ code on Windows 10, and for iOS developers they’ll be able to take advantage of their existing Objective C code. "We want to enable developers to leverage their current code and current skills to start building those Windows applications in the Store, and to be able to extend those applications," explained Microsoft’s Terry Myerson during an interview with The Verge this morning.
THE IDEA IS SIMPLE, THE EXECUTION IS A LITTLE MORE COMPLEX
The idea is simple, get apps on Windows 10 without the need for developers to rebuild them fully for Windows. While it sounds simple, the actual process will be a little more complicated than just pushing a few buttons to recompile apps. "Initially it will be analogous to what Amazon offers," notes Myerson, referring to the Android work Microsoft is doing. "If they’re using some Google API… we have created Microsoft replacements for those APIs." Microsoft’s pitch to developers is to bring their code across without many changes, and then eventually leverage the capabilities of Windows like Cortana, Xbox Live, Holograms, Live Tiles, and more. Microsoft has been testing its new tools with some key developers like King, the maker of Candy Crush Saga, to get games ported across to Windows. Candy Crush Saga as it exists today on Windows Phone has been converted from iOS code using Microsoft’s tools without many modifications.

"AT TIMES WE’VE THOUGHT, LETS JUST DO IOS."
During Microsoft’s planning for bringing iOS and Android apps to Windows, Myerson admits it wasn’t always an obvious choice to have both. "At times we’ve thought, let's just do iOS," Myerson explains. "But when we think of Windows we really think of everyone on the planet. There’s countries where iOS devices aren’t available." Supporting both Android and iOS developers allows Microsoft to capture everyone who is developing for mobile platforms right now, even if most companies still continue to target iOS first and port their apps to Android at the same time or shortly afterward. By supporting iOS developers, Microsoft wants to be third in line for these ported apps, and that’s a better situation than it faces today.
Alongside the iOS and Android SDKs, Microsoft is also revealing ways for websites and Windows desktop apps to make their way over to Windows universal apps. Microsoft has created a way for websites to run inside a Windows universal app, and use system services like notifications and in-app purchases. This should allow website owners to easily create web apps without much effort, and list those apps in the Windows Store. It’s not the best alternative to a native app for a lot of scenarios, but for simple websites it offers up a new way to create an app without its developers having to learn new code languages. Microsoft is also looking toward existing Windows desktop app developers with Windows 10. Developers will be able to leverage their .NET and Win32 work and bring this to Windows universal apps. "Sixteen million .NET and Win32 apps are still being used every month on Windows 7 and Windows 8," explains Myerson, so it’s clear Microsoft needs to get these into Windows 10.
Microsoft is using some of its HyperV work to virtualize these existing desktop apps on Windows 10. Adobe is one particular test case where Microsoft has been working closely with the firm to package its apps ready for Windows 10. Adobe Photoshop Elements is coming to the Windows Store as a universal app, using this virtualization technology. Performance is key for many desktop apps, so it will be interesting to see if Microsoft has managed to maintain a fluid app experience with this virtualization.
A SET OF BRIDGES TO WINDOWS 10
Collectively, Microsoft is referring to these four new SDKs as bridges or ramps to get developers interested in Windows 10. It’s a key moment for the company to really win back developers and prove that Windows is still relevant in a world that continues to be dominated by Android and iOS. The aim, as Myerson puts it, is to get Windows 10 on 1 billion devices within the next two to three years. That’s a big goal, and the company will need the support of developers and apps to help it get there.
These SDKs will generate questions among Microsoft’s core development community, especially those who invested heavily in the company’s Metro-style design and the unique features of Windows apps in the past. The end result for consumers is, hopefully, more apps, but for developers it’s a question of whether to simply port their existing iOS and Android work across and leave it at that, or extend those apps to use Windows features or even some design elements. "We want to structure the platform so it’s not an all or nothing," says Myerson. "If you use everything together it’s beautiful, but that’s not required to get started."
Microsoft still has the tricky mix of ported apps to contend with, and that could result in an app store similar to Amazon's, or even one where developers still aren't interested in porting. This is just the beginning, and Windows universal apps, while promising, still face a rocky and uncertain future.

Microsoft launches unified app store

Microsoft launches unified app store

Well its really a good news for all windows phone or more precisely "windows mobile" lovers. Microsoft has recently launched a one stop for windows and windows phone apps on web.he new universal store for Windows apps of all shapes and sizes has just gone live, eliminating the old separate Windows Phone and Windows Stores and bringing all apps under one roof.

There are also sections for Windows and Xbox apps, though the Xbox link in the dropdown menu just redirects to Xbox.com for now. Overall, things look pretty tidy and easy to navigate, with a big carousel banner at the top advertising featured apps, and sections for "Top Paid" and "Top Free" apps as you scroll down. Concerning the 'store' design, its really admirable how apps are being managed.

Users can really feel the difference in the both stores. The new store is some what like Android play store but yup with little enhancement still needed.
